America Rocks My Socks

As excited as I am to ship off to Australia this month, I am admittedly growing sentimental in leaving the good 'ol US of A. I well up with pride as I write this. Absence will surely make the heart grow fonder.

God Bless Amurrricaaa!
In no particular meticulously planned order:
1. Opportunity—The American Dream. How could this not rank #1 on my list? Land of the free, home of the brave. Ironic that I'm heading to Australia for my first big girl job?

2. Diversity-- Remember, we're a salad bowl, not a melting pot. We hold on to our unique traditions, languages, foods, such as the tomatoes, carrots, and croutons of a salad, rather than let them melt together in one big mess. America is a microcosm of nearly every world culture, race, religion, climate, animal kingdom and landscape.

3. Bill Gates—The creative force behind the internet…er, Microsoft.

4. Ben & Jerry—The two most important men in my life when the going gets rough. They bury their infamous concoctions in the Flavor Graveyard.  R.I.P. Economic Crunch,

5. Happy Hour—What’s better than after work alcohol? The half price kind, of course

6. Rock&Roll—So put another dime in the juke box babyyy.

7. NASCAR (Just kidding)

8. Girl Scout (COOKIES)—Tagalongs. Frozen. PB. Chocolate. Need I say more? They need to begin selling in grocery stores, once a year is not often enough.

9. Resiliency— Our ability to bounce back from a stale economy is astounding. The response to the hurricane Katrina devastation brought out some of the most kind-hearted people I've ever seen. I'm honored to live in a country where even if the government is incompetent, the citizens bond together make things right again.

10. Tailgaiting- Sports, beer, food, parking lots. Stay classy, America.

11. Credit cards—Oh wait, these suck. The downfall of us all.

12. The cheeseburger—About as American as it gets.

13. Olympic dominatrix-- To date, we have 2,681 medals. Next runner up: Soviet Union at only 1,204. Badda-bing, badda-boom!

14. MegaMillionsJackpot baby. We like our money like we like our food--supersized.

15. Freedom--We can freely criticize the government, our president, the next door neighbor. It doesn't mean that you have to agree with everything I say or do, but that we respect each other's right to voice our opinions. Agree to respectfully disagree.

16. Twister—Encouraging socially acceptable physical contact at college campuses around the country

17.   Peanut butter--Unfortunately Italy beat us to Nutella

18.   Tipping—10, 15, 20%? Mind-boggling for the math-illiterate among us. Not a thing in the land down unda, but thus their food is 3x more expensive.

19.   WiFi—How else do you expect me to watch that episode of the Bachelor, while blogging?

20.   Wikipedia—Never, ever to be used as a citation in your semester research paper. Learned that lesson the tough way.

21.   Snuggies—And all other As Seen on TV glories. As long as it’s not camo, cartoon related, or cheetah print, you’re good.

22.   S’Mores—Always leaving you begging for Some-More

23.   Spring Break—Embarrassing our nation one wet t-shirt contest at a time.

24.   Gmail—GooglePlus, GoogleMaps, GoogleDocs, GoogleShop, GoogleScholar… I could go on and on.  Makes the blogging world simple as Apple Pie.

25.   The entire Apple empire—Destroying family together time one iPad at a time.

26.  Hope-- Precisely "a country which knows it is capable of greater things: that we will cure cancer and advance the sciences, that we will pursue corruption and combat poverty, that we will be the world's police to those who wish it harm and the world's shelter to those who have been harmed because that is our duty, that we will go back to the moon and then on to Mars, because our forefathers forged our greatness and our children compel us to utilize it."
Oops, couldn't narrow it down to just 25. Our nation is just that great! What important goods did leave off?

One of the saddest parts about leaving the US? I will no longer be able to participate in blogger swaps which have grown to be one of my favorite parts of this community! My last one was a huge success: #theinspire swap hosted by my girl Rachael.

I made an amazing new gal, Jenn who took the time to get to know me over the month. She sent me Australian wine (in a pouch!) with dark chocolate, moon cheese, and a summer read to pair with it. The card was awe-inspiring and I can't wait to use the Lush bath bomb. She even sent some treats for Jack Bear! I think I could easily be best friends with this girl in real life!

And now I'd like you to meet some pretty rad ladies who I've formed bonds with over the month. They are offering you a sweet little giveaway at the end!

Erica @ Coming Up Roses

An inspiration blog about blossoming happiness in life and love, with a full dosage of fashion and beauty to boot. It's all from the perspective of a blossoming city woman at Tory Burch and John Legend's alma mater. I've probably had a cup o' green tea and changed my hairstyle twice today already. I talk with my hands and squeak when I laugh, and I'm obsessed with anything chiffon and all things leopard print. Win my heart with Chinese takeout or a really great baguette.

Christine @ Life with a side of coffee

I am a very recent graduate who is starting her career and just trying to find my place. I'm just living life in Chicago and blogging in the process about everything from celebrities to recipes, TV shows and new music I've found. I believe all you need to get by in life is a cup of coffee and a glass of wine. You can find me in a coffee shop sipping a cappuccino reading anything from Hemingway to Sparks or walking down the streets in any given Chicago neighborhood looking for her next exciting adventure. Come on over and say hi!!!!
