We have just returned from a vacation in the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota? We would have never chose this for a destination but with a close friend living in the city we decided that we would give it a visit. We hear stories of how cold it gets in the Winter but this is now Summer and any evidence of snow is well and truly gone. This is the biggest city in the area and by far the best to live. A trip to Minneapolis is a bargain because you can get to enjoy both Minneapolis and St. Paul which make up the Twin Cities.
Minneapolis is a bit spread out and to see the whole city over a long weekend it’s best to have a rental car. Whilst the public transport is good for time purposes we recommend a car. We stayed downtown Minneapolis is a couple of different hotels and found that from here we can get around the city easy enough.
Our friend lived downtown which also came in handy and even more so when they lived 2 minutes away from the iconic landmarks, the Spoonbridge and Cherry. Take in the popular sculpture located in the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden outside the Walker Art Center, which we also tried out.
Nothing is better than a summers day watching a baseball game and in this state there is only 1 team to care about, the Minnesota Twins. The stadium is a great one and is located in the heart of downtown, the Target Stadium.
After we finished up here went to the famous Stone Arch Bridge which goes across the famous Mississippi river. Our friends invited us on Hennipen to have late night drinks which was also great at this time of year.
Over the next few nights we went to Uptown which has fantastic lakes and neighbourhoods, if I could see myself living anywhere it would be here for sure. Take a morning walk around the lake or rent a bike and explore the extensive network of bike trails. Uptown has many trendy restaurants, bars, and shops
After fueling up with some Minneapolis favorites it’s time to tackle the 500+ stores inside the Mall of America. The second largest shopping mall in the United States is located just a few miles away from downtown and the airport. An indoor amusement park is great!!
